FS 128 is a semester-long course that teaches the foundations-level art student how to draw the human figure accurately, mainly through the study of anatomy.  Students will study balance, proportion, skeletal structure, musculature, and joint movement.  Each topic will be presented in a lecture, demonstrated with a live model, and practiced by drawing from the skeleton, plaster cast, and/or the live model.  Students will work primarily in the medium of graphite pencil and charcoal in class, but will have the opportunity to explore other media and supports in out-of-class assignments.

The goal of this course is to equip students with a comprehensive understanding of the forms and functions of the human body, its capacity for movement, and techniques for realistically depicting the human form two-dimensionally.  Students who successfully complete this course will be able to draw a well-measured, accurately constructed, and realistically rendered human figure and will be well-prepared to continue the study of figure drawing beyond the foundation year.
