This course is designed to give you a thorough grounding in the methods and tools of observation-based representational drawing as well as help you recognize and nurture your personal artistic tendencies and creativity.  You will explore a variety of drawing media and techniques, learn to measure proportions accurately, and learn to depict realistic three-dimensional space using the system of perspective.   You will study the formal aspects of drawing - line, value, form, volume, texture, space, and composition - while working from still life, landscapes, interiors, the human figure, and your imagination. Course assignments will give you the opportunity to exercise your creativity and conceptual thinking, while guiding you towards the establishment of a solid work ethic and habits of good craftsmanship.  We will discuss your drawings in class critiques designed to help you improve with feedback from your peers and gain confidence in your ability to judge and discuss works of art.  If successfully completed, this course will improve your manual dexterity and perceptual and analytical skills and provide a solid foundation for your future development in any artistic field.
