Join CCAD Fine Arts Associate Professor Kristine Schramer for two weeks of intensive drawing and painting instruction in the beautiful Italian province of Tuscany.  The program is based in the hill town of Cortona, near many major artistic centers of the Italian Renaissance.  Participants will reside in the Hotel Oasi Neumann, a converted 13th century monastery with a peaceful terrace overlooking extensive gardens.  In conjunction with the Centro di Studi Internazionali Baldassarre Castiglione, students will receive lessons in linear perspective, landscape drawing and painting techniques, pictorial composition, color theory, art history… and even a special lesson in Italian cooking!  Both in Cortona and during excursions to other cities, students will draw and paint on location from landscape and architecture, as well as find opportunities to make gesture sketches of the figure and studies from masterworks.  Full-day guided excursions are planned to the most important artistic cities of the region, including Florence, Assisi, Arezzo, and San Sepolcro.  Enjoy the best of Italian cuisine at meals served in the Oasi Neumann Hotel restaurant, banquets in an historic Tuscan villa, and casual dinners in pizzaria restaurants.  During free days, participants may choose to travel on their own using the convenient train and bus systems that connect Cortona to the rest of Italy, or may decide to stay in Cortona and take a hike, dine out, attend a concert, go shopping, or simply relax on the hotel terrace.
