The design for this doghouse originally centered around medium to large dogs. Our dimensions came from researching dogs, and creating a plan to accommodate this size of dog comfortably. Working with a budget, we chose durable and cost-effective materials, such as pine and treated wood. For the frame of the house, we built a stud wall and affixed a piece of exterior plywood to each side. The floor is constructed much the same, and the beams are placed strategically under the columns and walls for support. Apart from the interior living space for the dog, there is also a porch, covered by a roof, so that the dog can enjoy the open air while still sheltered. The roof is supported by multiple columns, and is constructed the same way as the walls and floor, to ensure stability if the dog jumps up onto the roof. This doghouse includes a window in the design, to allow the owner to see if their dog is inside the house without having to leave theirs. This window is in a panel that is on hinges, to allow for easy access for the owner to clean the doghouse.
