Between timid and Timbuktu is the first in an ongoing series of installations by Ian Horn. The focus of these installations is correlative study between the Greek myth of Narcissus and Echo and contem porary trends.

Narcissus and narcissistic personality disorder is the primary focus of this installation. Hidden video cameras present the viewer with images of their body's from obscure angles, and prompt the viewer to examine their own bodies, clothing, and styles in new ways.

The walls of the space are segmented into four separate colors: Orange (idealized), Yellow (Spiritual), Besiege (the actual), and Blue (the inactive/subconscious). These separations are reflected in the images hung on the walls and act with the cameras and vanity table to present the viewer with different impressions of their appearance.
