The work Adonta ta mele is the second installment of a series of works by Ian Horn. This series is a re-examination of the Narcissus - Echo myth and its significance to contemporary society. In this current exhibition Ian Horn has begun to contemplate the nature of Echo not as a physical person but as what constructs the memory of an individual post-mortem.

The focus of this series is on the story of a young New England family, the Abbotts, who disappeared over the course of 10 years. Ann - Marie Abbott disappeared first on June 3, 1977 and her husband Lou followed on June 3, 1987. No trace has ever been found of either.

This exhibition is comprised of two simultaneous installations: 2 Crescent Lane and Purple Flowers, Bent.

Adonta ta mele: 2 Crescent Lane is a recreation of the Abbott’s home in Watershed, Massachusetts. Through collections of artifacts from the Abbott estate and projected video Ian Horn presents the viewer with a fragmented story of the Abbott’s relationship and disappearances.

Adonta ta mele: Purple Flowers, Bent focuses on the town’s perception of the Abbotts and their disappearances. This work is a written narrative that focuses on the phenomena of Ian Horn's inital discovery of the Abbotts and Watershed, Massachussetts.

The contrasting nature of these two shows invites the viewer to question which story to believe about the Abbotts, and to examine how a person’s persona is created and remembered; is it the physical material of our existence that characterizes our persona or is it the stories told about ourselves that structures our behavior and memory.
